When is the Silent Hill 2 remake release date? Developer Bloober Team is overhauling Konami’s beloved horror game for PS5 players, as the studio is set to deliver the first proper Silent Hill game in a decade. It has been a long wait, but we’re drawing closer to the Silent Hill 2 remake release date.
Silent Hill 2 is often regarded as one of the best horror games ever made, and we’re surprised a current-gen refresh hasn’t happened sooner. With updated visuals and general enhancements to gameplay, the Silent Hill 2 remake should take one of the best games of the PS2 era and elevate it to a new level on current-gen hardware.
Silent Hill 2 remake release date window
Bloober Team will reveal the Silent Hill 2 remake release in the later half of 2024, according to an investor call in April 2024. Bloober Team CEO Piotr Babieno says that the studio is “in the final stages of work on Silent Hill 2. We expect that a release date and platforms on which the game will appear will be revealed soon.” It is possible that the Silent Hill 2 remake could launch on a very special date, if all goes to plan (more on that below).
The game’s release window was officially confirmed by Sony in an ‘Upcoming Games in 2024’ video spotlight. Although the spotlight doesn’t specify a date, though James Sunderland’s return is noted alongside other major PS5 releases like Dragon’s Dogma 2 and Stellar Blade.
Previously, a leaked retail listing for the game suggested that September 29, 2023, would be the release date for the SH2 remake, however with that date now having passed, that’s turned out to be inaccurate.
Many fans also hoped and speculated that the game would launch on September 24, which is the same day the original Silent Hill 2 released on, way back in 2021. A poignant date, sure, but it turned out to be an incorrect one. That date is a Tuesday in 2024, making it more likely that the game could release on Friday, September 27, 2024 – to at least be within the same week as the anniversary. If early access is granted for pre-orders, that might let players in on the game’s 20th anniversary.
Until a more concrete date arrives, here’s what you can learn about the platforms the game is coming to.
Silent Hill 2 remake platforms
The Silent Hill 2 remake is set to launch on PS5 and PC. The game is set to be a 12-month console exclusive for PS5, so it won’t hit Xbox Series X|S consoles until at least a year after its initial launch. There is no guarantee it will even hit Xbox once that agreement ends, as several other Sony timed exclusives haven’t hit the platform, such as Kena Bridge of Spirits.
Nevertheless, we hope Xbox players will get the chance to dive into the overhauled survival horror experience, as many fans will have come from the launch of the original on Xbox, or the remaster (yes, the one with the Comic Sans font) on Xbox 360.
Silent Hill 2 remake trailer
The first Silent Hill 2 remake trailer was revealed during the Silent Hill Transmission in 2022, which shows off a short look at Bloober Team’s work. This version of the game sees the return of Masahiro Ito and Akira Yamaoka and is from an over-the-shoulder perspective.
The team at Bloober is aiming to blend the “old and the new” of the series and make the game as important as it originally was, but this time in Unreal Engine 5. Mateusz Lenart, the creative director of The Medium, is the lead director on the game, and a brand new sound design and music style was implemented for the remake.
Silent Hill 2 remake gameplay
During the January 2024 PlayStation State of Play, a brand-new combat reveal trailer aired. Here we can see beautifully remade gameplay snippets taken from various points in the game.
Enemies are far more aggressive than they were in the original Silent Hill 2, but fortunately, you’ll have a familiar arsenal of makeshift weaponry and guns to deal with them. We’ve also spotted a struggle system for when monsters get too close, akin to that found in the Resident Evil series.
It also looks like Bloober Team is going to be adding some new puzzles to the remake, as we see a closet with golden hands that turn and drop a golden ball. The classic coin puzzle is there, too, so the studio is clearly looking to blend the old with the new.
That is everything we know about the Silent Hill 2 remake release date. We still have a lot more to see and a long way to go. So, be sure to keep this page bookmarked and keep an eye on The Loadout for more coverage of the series.
