What are this month’s PS Plus free games? Regardless of what tier you’re subscribed to, you’ll be treated to a handful of amazing free PS Plus games each month that you can download, play, and keep forever. Admittedly, the PS Plus April games lineup isn’t about to set the world alight, but you can never turn your nose up at free games.
This month’s lineup is headlined by a big-budget FPS game, which sounds excellent, but as you’re about to see, these PS Plus freebies are lacking the star power of some of the biggest and best PS5 games. If you’re left wanting more, you can always get access to the massive PS Plus Extra and Premium games list if you decide to upgrade your subscription tier.
PS Plus free games April 2024
The PS Plus free games for April 2024 are:
- Immortals of Aveum – PS5 only
- Minecraft Legends – PS4, PS5
- Skul: The Hero Slayer – PS4, PS5
Compared to last month’s lineup, which included bangers like Sifu and even an entire Destiny 2 expansion, this month’s offering fails to hit the same levels of excitement. That’s definitely not to say they are bad games, though, and there will definitely be something here for the majority of PlayStation gamers.
These games will be available to claim for free until May 6. Even if you don’t have the time to play them this month, we always encourage you to redeem them, as they’ll stay in your library indefinitely, so long as you have a PS Plus sub active.
Below you can find more details about April’s free PS Plus games.
Immortals of Aveum
What happens if you take a Call of Duty campaign but swap the guns for magic spells? Well, you get Immortals of Aveum.
The debut game from Ascendant Studios, which was founded by former Call of Duty and Dead Space devs, Immortals of Aveum puts you in the shoes of the magic-wielding Jak. There are over 25 different spells to learn, and many of them marry up to the typical weapon archetypes you find in some of today’s top shooters – machine guns, shotguns, snipers, you know the sort.
The game looks great thanks to its hefty development budget and is a fairly snappy playthrough – wrapping up the campaign will probably take you around 15 hours. We had some good things to say about it in our Immortals of Aveum review, but admittedly, it’s not going to go down as one of the all-time great narrative shooters. For FPS fans, it’s definitely worth giving a go.
Minecraft Legends
Did you know that the creator of Minecraft made a third-person, real-time strategy game? Yes, really. And it drafted in some expert help too in the form of co-developer Blackbird Interactive.
It’s a pretty wild concept, seeing the blocky characters and environments of Minecraft being flung into this genre. And while there are definitely better and more intricate strategy games out there, this is a great experience for anyone wanting to get a feel for this kind of game.
While it’s not one of the recent Xbox exclusives that made its way to PlayStation (it’s been on the platform since it launched last year) it is a game that was published by Xbox Game Studios, so it is quite amusing to see it being given away as a PS Plus freebie this month.
Skul: The Hero Slayer
Probably the least-known game on April’s lineup is Skul: The Hero Slayer, a platformer that looks fairly unassuming on the surface but packs lots of surprises.
While the usual videogame trope sees you playing as the hero to defeat some force of evil, this flips things on its head – Skul is there to defend demonkind from heroes that are looking to defeat them.
While controlling the cute lil’ skeleton, you can also pop off his skull and swap it for another, with different skulls granting you different buffs and abilities. This platformer is also one of the best roguelike games around, so it’ll keep you invested for a decent amount of time and offer up a strong level of challenge.
So that’s our rundown of the three freebies being offered to PS Plus subscribers for April 2024. Remember, you’ve got until May 6 to add these games to your library!
