Capcom’s upcoming dystopian sci-fi experience Pragmata is set to transport us to a near-future version of our Moon with some intriguing gadgets and abilities. There’s also a strange cyborg cat, if you needed more convincing that this is going to be a game worth checking out.
It was initially revealed all the way back in 2020 with a 2022 release window, before being pushed back to 2023, and then finally being indefinitely delayed. The only two trailers we have for the game are also quite confusing, and details on the new PS5 game and new Xbox game are limited. However, we’ve rounded up everything that’s out there so far to give you a full overview of Pragmata.
Pragmata gameplay
Pragmata will be a third-person sci-fi action adventure game. This was confirmed early doors by Capcom, and some very brief snippets of gameplay footage from the game’s 2023 trailer support this.
The game appears to feature two main protagonists – a so-far nameless person in a spacesuit, and a child in a blue coat called Diana. It seems that both will be involved in gameplay, but so far only the nameless character appears to be fully controllable by the player. He can be seen dodging enemies, firing weapons, floating and sprinting through a space station, and potentially controlling some kind of mech as well.
It’s unclear if you can switch between the characters, if Diana is playable in specific scenarios, or if she is just a companion that can assist you with certain skills.
While Diana is mostly seen in gameplay footage clinging on to the back of our unnamed spaceman, some snippets do show here walking around a level and approaching parts of the environment. A more cinematic moment also sees her summoning some kind of powerful energy.
Pragmata setting
While its first reveal trailer from 2020 takes place on a post-disaster Earth, the majority of the game will seemingly take place on the Moon. Pragmata “depicts a near-future dystopian world on the moon through a deeply profound story and setting”, according to its landing page on the Xbox Store.
The ending of said reveal trailer also sees our protagonists standing on the Moon looking back at Earth, and the 2023 trailer further up this guide also shows gameplay happening inside what looks like some kind of space station.
Pragmata platforms
Pragmata is confirmed to be coming to PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S consoles, alongside PC. The game currently has landing pages on both the PlayStation Store and Xbox Store.
Why was Pragmata delayed?
As mentioned, Pragmata is currently without a release date or window as it was indefinitely delayed in June 2023. The gameplay teaser trailer included a scrawled drawing by Diana which read “very sorry” and had the previous release windows of 2022 and 2023 crossed out. It also ended with the statement below:
“It is with a heavy heart that we must further postpone the release of Pragmata. Our team is currently hard at work making the best game that we possibly can but we need more time. We will continue to do our best to ensure that the final product is one that is worthy of your patience. Thank you for your continued support.”
That’s everything we currently know about Pragmata. We can’t wait to see more of what Capcom’s cooking, and we’ve got our fingers crossed that it’ll be worthy of a spot on our best PS5 games and best Xbox games lists when it does eventually arrive.
