We’ve got our fingers crossed that Concord will rank among the best FPS games of this console generation, but what can you expect from one of Sony’s most intriguing new PS5 games? When will it come out? What will the gameplay be like? While details are a bit sparse at the moment, we have some answers below based on the slithers of info that Firewalk and Sony have revealed so far.
Concord game release date window
The Concord release date will arrive before the end of 2024 on PS5 and PC. This was announced during the 2023 PlayStation Showcase, and a Sony financial report in May 2024 also reconfirmed this release window.
Unfortunately for those on last-gen hardware, the game will not be coming to PS4.
Concord game developer
As mentioned, Concord is being developed by Firewalk Studios. In April 2023, Firewalk Studios was acquired by Sony Interactive Entertainment to make it a first-party PlayStation studio. It is comprised largely of former Bungie developers who have experience making some of the best space shooter series ever, such as Halo and Destiny, and that bodes well for Concord.
Former talent from big FPS studios like Respawn (Apex Legends, Titanfall) and Treyarch (Call of Duty) are also working on Concord at Firewalk.
With a studio overflowing with experienced FPS devs, shooter fans are really hoping for something special.
What to expect from Concord
Concord is a PvP first-person shooter with a retro-sci-fi aesthetic. It is described by Firewalk as “a bringing together of peoples” that champions the unique, unexpected moments that multiplayer games can create.
“Every time you log on is the beginning of a new adventure and every match is an opportunity for a new story. It’s these ideals that define Concord, its unique universe of vibrant worlds, and its rich cast of colorful characters,” game director Ryan Ellis wrote in a blog post back when the game was first announced.
It’s also set in an “original sci-fi universe”, and the reveal trailer gives big space scoundrel vibes with its messy ship and a shot of what looks like a heavily-modified rifle.
We know that there will be live service elements, but exactly what they’ll entail is yet to be confirmed.
In terms of gameplay, we’ve had no hard details yet either. It could be an extraction-style PvP experience, a more fast-paced arena shooter, or something completely unique within the FPS space. We hope that we won’t have to speculate on this for too much longer, and we anticipate that more details about Concord, including a firm release date, will be shared at Sony’s next showcase or State of Play broadcast.
Concord latest news
As you can imagine from the sparsity of info we have on the game there hasn’t been much in the way of big news stories surrounding Concord. However, there have been a few moments throughout 2024 where its name has hit the headlines.
Firstly, Concord was included in a PlayStation blog post from January that only featured games set to be released during 2024. As very little had been heard about the game, many assumed it had been hit by a delay, but this montage reconfirmed that 2024 was still the target window.
Similarly, Sony’s financial reports from May 2024 reaffirmed this release date window, specifically highlighting Concord as one of this year’s upcoming games alongside The Final Shape release date for Destiny 2’s next expansion.
