Lara Croft is one of the most iconic videogame characters ever, and now Xbox Game Pass has managed to complete the set when it comes to getting her entire Tomb Raider Survivor trilogy on the service. Joining the second and third games in the series, 2013’s Tomb Raider has just landed on the Game Pass library too.
Featuring alongside the likes of Hellblade 2 on the lineup of new Xbox Game Pass games for May, Tomb Raider is a must-play for action-adventure game fans (or a must-replay for Lara Croft lovers that want to experience it all over again). While the second game in the modern trilogy, Rise of the Tomb Raider, is widely touted as the best of the three, the first game is a very close runner-up, if you ask us.
This reboot of the franchise may have ended on a slightly sour note with the inferior Shadow of the Tomb Raider in 2018, but the trilogy as a whole is excellent. The fact that you can now play all three of them back-to-back via the Xbox Game Pass library is pretty awesome.
While Rise had been on there for a little while, Microsoft last month added Shadow back onto Game Pass and is now putting the first game on there this month. That shows a concerted effort to get Lara’s best Xbox games on the service, and seeing as the remaster of the original Tomb Raider trilogy also dropped this year, it seems there’s a lot of activity around the franchise right now. Maybe, just maybe, things are gearing up ahead of June’s Summer Game Fest for a potential announcement on the next Tomb Raider game.
It was confirmed in 2022 that a new Tomb Raider was in development at Crystal Dynamics, with Amazon Games coming in as publisher. The project is being made in Unreal Engine 5, and in February a first look at the new iteration of Lara was revealed (you can take a look at that below). While it might be too early for gameplay, we wonder if a teaser trailer or CGI reveal trailer might be on the cards soon, given all the recent pushes to get people playing Tomb Raider games again.
Anyway, we’ll take our tinfoil hat off for now. What we do know for certain is that from today you can play all three games from the modern Tomb Raider series on Game Pass, and that’s ace.
