Pokemon GO’s 8th Anniversary Party Start and End Times
From June 28 at 10 AM to July 3, 2024 at 8 PM local time, Pokemon GO’s 8th Anniversary Party event will happen in-game for all players to celebrate.
Officially released back in 2016, it is going to be eight years since every trainer first experienced Pokemon GO. From the original Kanto Pokemon going all the way to the latest Paldea releases, Pokemon GO has come a long way since then.
As for the event itself, let us talk about the event bonuses. For the entire duration of the 8th Anniversary Party event, here are all the bonuses players can expect to be active:
- Increased chances to become Lucky Friends
- Increased chances to get Lucky Pokémon in trades
- Friendship levels will increase faster than normal through opening Gifts, trading Pokémon, or battling together in raids, Gyms, or Trainer Battles
- Chance of finding 8 or 88 (or maybe more!) Gimmighoul Coins when you spin a PokéStop with a Golden Lure Module.
Furthermore, the 8th Anniversary Party event will have unique special bonuses on certain days. The schedule is as follows:
- From June 28 at 10 AM to June 29 at 11:59 PM local time
- 1/2 Egg Hatch Distance when Eggs are placed in an Incubator on these days.
- From June 30 at 12 AM to July 1 at 11:59 PM local time
- 2× XP for catching Pokémon.
- From July 2 at 12 AM to July 3 at 8 PM local time
- 2× Stardust for catching Pokémon.

Party Hat Grimer and Muk Debuts in Pokemon GO
For the first time ever in the game, Grimer and Muk both wearing a party hat will make their way to Pokemon GO! This marks the first time both Grimer and Muk will have costumed variants in Pokemon GO.
What's more is that both Party Hat Grimer and Muk can be shiny if you are an extremely lucky trainer.
Shiny Meltan is Back!
During Pokemon GO's 8th Anniversary Party event, shiny Meltan returns to Pokemon GO. If you are very lucky, you might encounter a Shiny Meltan if you use the Mystery Box during this 8th Anniversary event.
In addition to that, everyone will be able to open the Mystery Box more frequently all throughout the 8th Anniversary Party event.
In order to get Mystery Boxes, the methods remain the same. You can get a Mystery Box by sending a Pokemon from Pokemon GO to Pokemon: Let's Go, Pikachu!, Pokemon: Let's Go, Eevee!, or Pokemon HOME.
Featured Wild Pokemon Encounters During Pokemon GO’s 8th Anniversary Party
Hold on, there are more featured Pokemon during the 8th Anniversary Party event. Here are all the possible wild encounters in this event:

All the featured wild encounters that currently have their respective shiny forms present in the game can be encountered as a shiny if you are just lucky enough.
Featured One-Star Raids During The 8th Anniversary Party
During the 8th Anniversary Party event, the following Pokemon will be appearing in One-Star Raids:
- Bulbasaur wearing a party hat
- Charmander wearing a party hat
- Squirtle wearing a party hat
- Pikachu wearing a cake hat
- Grimer wearing a party hat
Pokemon encountered through the one-star raids will have a greater chance of being a shiny Pokemon than when found in the wild.
Event-themed Field Research Tasks Pokemon Rewards
There will also be 8th Anniversary Party-themed Field Research Tasks during this event. Completing them will yield encounters with starter Pokemon such as Bulbasaur, Cyndaquil, Mudkip, and more.
Additionally, some 8th Anniversary Party-themed Field Research Tasks will also award Mega Energy for the following Pokemon:
- Venusaur
- Charizard
- Blastoise
- Sceptile
- Blaziken
- Swampert
Mega Evolved Pokemon for Pokemon GO’s 8th Anniversary Party
There are a lot of featured Pokemon during this 8th Anniversary Party event. As such, here are a few suggestions from us:
- Mega Evolve a Charizard or a Blaziken for additional candies to the Fire-type starters.
- Mega Evolve a Blastoise, a Gyarados, or opt for a Primal Kyogre for additional candies to the Water-type starters.
- Mega Evolve a Venusaur or a Sceptile for additional candies to the Grass-type starters.
- Mega Evolve a Steelix, Scizor, or an Aggron for additional candies for Meltan.
- Mega Evolve a Beedrill for additional candies for Grimer and Muk.
As long as you mega evolve the same type of what you are hunting for, the choice is ultimately yours. Do note though that you can mega evolve as many Pokemon as you want each day but only one Mega Pokemon can be active at any time.
PokeStop Showcases
The 8th Anniversary Party event will also be featuring PokeStop Showcases! Thus, be sure to be on the lookout for those XXL Pokemon and remember not to accidentally transfer them.
Special Timed Research for Pokemon GO’s 8th Anniversary Party
There is also a special timed research for the 8th Anniversary Party event in Pokemon GO. Simply logging in during the duration of the event will give you access to the 8th Anniversary Party-themed Timed Research.
Completing tasks rewards trainers with Stardust, XP, and encounters with event-themed Pokémon such as Raticate wearing a party hat, Nidorino wearing a party hat, Wobbuffet wearing a party hat, Meltan, and more!
If you do decide to complete this timed research, you have to finish this and get the rewards before the 8th Anniversary Party event ends, which is on July 3, 2024 at 8 PM local time.

Whispers in the Woods
For $5 (or the equivalent pricing tier in other local currencies), trainers can also choose to pick up the Whispers in the Woods Masterwork Research Story that leads to an encounter with a Shiny Celebi!
Shiny Celebi originally appeared in Pokemon GO in the Distracted by Something Shiny Special Research story, and it is returning once more as part of the 8th Anniversary Party event.
Unfortunately for those who have completed the Distracted by Something Shiny Special Research story, they can't buy the Whispers in the Woods Masterwork Research Story. However, alongside trainers who do buy this new Shiny Celebi Research story, they will be able to enjoy the following event bonuses during this event:
- 2× Incense duration
- 2× Daily Adventure Incense duration
- 2× Lucky Egg duration
Tickets for this Masterwork Research story will be available up until the event ends. So, be sure to swiftly grab a ticket if you do not have a Shiny Celebi yet!
Web Store Exclusive Anniversary Box
For $4.99 (or the equivalent pricing tier in other local currencies), players can buy the web store exclusive anniversary box.
This bundle contains three Remote Raid Passes, one Incubator, and three Premium Battle Passes.
New Avatar Items and Stickers
With a massive event such as the 8th Anniversary Party, it is only fitting to have new avatar items for your in-game outfits.

Medals to Grind on Pokemon GO’s 8th Anniversary Party
Trainers can obtain medals in the game by completing different objectives and reaching predetermined benchmarks. A few of those medals also provide ongoing in-game bonuses.
If the perks weren't enough to persuade you, players actually do need to collect a certain quantity of medals, specifically the platinum medals which are the highest tier of medals, in order to continue rising up past Level 40.
Players must obtain five Platinum Medals to reach Level 43, twenty Platinum Medals to reach Level 47, and thirty Platinum Medals to reach Level 49.
