Toys For Bob, the developers of the modern Crash Bandicoot and Spyro games, are possibly teasing a new game for either franchise. Almost a year has passed since the launch of Crash Team Rumble and fans are patiently waiting for the next project. Many believe that Spyro 4 could be next. However, after getting laid off by Activision earlier this year, it's unclear whether or not the now indie developers will still work on new games.
Toys For Bob announced earlier this year that they transitioned into becoming indie developers. The developers' official website shut down last May 1, 2024. Since then, their website suddenly became accessible again but with an image of a purple tiki mask and nothing else on it.
Rumors suddenly spread like wildfire throughout social media stating that a new Crash Bandicoot or Spyro game could be in the works. Everyone else's theory could likely be true. But prominent Crash and Spyro content creator Canadian Guy Eh broke down what's going on.
Canadian Guy Eh Shuts Down New Crash Bandicoot Rumors
When one sees a tiki mask associated with Toys For Bob, it's easy to link it to everyone's favorite orange marsupial. Since his early days with Naughty Dog, Crash Bandicoot is known for fighting bad guys accompanied by evil tiki masks with his own heroic tiki mask. With that in mind, it makes sense that the purple tiki mask on Toys For Bob's website could be a hint to a new Crash game.
Unfortunately, Canadian Guy Eh doesn't believe that the Bandicoot is making his return. He pointed out that the tiki mask is the developers' logo. To elaborate, it means that the tiki mask has nothing to do with the orange marsupial. But that doesn't mean fans should lose hope. The content creator also explained that when Crash Team Rumble was still active, the developers' logo had an orange design matched with fruity patterns. The new logo trending on the internet is color purple with what seems to be textures of gems.
When playing Crash games, one of the goals of the game is to collect wumpa fruit. On the other hand, when playing Spyro games, players collect different colored gems. As Canadian Guy Eh connects these two dots, he strongly encouraged the idea of a new Spyro game coming out instead.
New Spyro Game in Development
Earlier this March, Canadian Guy Eh confirmed that Spyro 4 is in development. One might ask where his sources came from. The content creator attended PAX East 2024 on March 21. At that gaming convention, he overheard one of the developers working for Toys For Bob disclosing information regarding a new Spyro game. Initially, the content creator took it with a grain of salt. However, another prominent Crash Bandicoot and Spyro content creator Jez Corden published an exclusive article confirming the details Canadian Guy Eh found out about prior.
This led the content creator to confirm with other sources and investigate more information. Canadian Guy Eh then revealed that Spyro 4 is currently in development and the project began in January 2024. Having that said, the purple tiki mask on Toys For Bob's website is a nod to a new Spyro game. However, fans should still take everything with a grain of salt. As the content creator mentioned, the game is still in its early stages of development. That means, there's a huge possibility of the game getting delayed, canceled, or reworked into a completely new concept.
