After three years of waiting, Ubisoft finally announced an XDefiant release date. Ubisoft's original free-to-play first-person shooter brings players a 6v6 shooting game filled with lots of action and thrilling moments. Here are all the details.
XDefiant Release Date – May 21, 2024
Ubisoft is launching XDefiant's preseason on May 21, 2024, at 10 AM PT/1 PM ET, on the PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC through the Ubisoft store. According to the publisher's official website, the preseason will last for six weeks. Prior to the preseason launch, selected players had access to the test version of the game. During that period, the developers were able to get everyone's feedback and could hopefully apply specific changes when the FPS becomes available to the general audience.
Gameplay
What makes XDefiant special is the idea of some iconic Ubisoft characters crossing paths in the free-to-play shooter. The game has players participate in a 6v6 shootout representing certain factions. These factions feature some iconic characters from other Ubisoft worlds. Each character has their respective classes matched with unique abilities and special skills.
While the characters in the game are split into factions, players can select who they want to play as and team up with other characters outside their faction. It's also worth noting that players don't have to worry about sticking to one character throughout the match. They can switch factions anytime mid-game to switch up their gameplay and adapt to the current situation.
Aside from special abilities, players can equip their characters with a vast collection of loadouts. In every shooting game, some specialize more in close-range, mid-range, or long-range combat. Fortunately, players are free to switch out weapons anytime, no matter who they play as, according to their playstyle of comfortability. Ubisoft promises players that XDefiant will have realistic gunplay while keeping the familiarity of an arena shooting game.
The game also features 14 maps. Based on the trailer, it seems that more maps will be introduced as the game's lifespan progresses. Like every other shooter game, XDefiant will have both casual and ranked modes.
Lastly, it's worth mentioning that the game will be crossplay among the PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC.
