Jin Kazama is now the king of the Iron Fist Tournament. It's been nearly a week since Tekken 8 Patch 1.04 launched and there have already been significant changes. Before the update, the majority of the player base used Eddy in online mode. However, with major buffs and nerfs now implemented in the new patch, the usage rate of each character switched up.
Prominent Tekken 8 YouTube content creator Moonsault Slayer recently revealed the current charts of the most used characters in Patch 1.04. According to the statistics, approximately 8,000 players are using Jin across all ranks online. Jin previously ranked second behind Eddy prior to the new patch. However, it appears that tweaking the Capoeira master severely affected his popularity making him drop down to 13th place. Now, only around 4,000 players are using the Brazilian fighter.
Based on the patch notes, Eddy wasn't necessarily nerfed but got a few debuffs to balance his overall power. This could be one of the factors why his usage rate dropped. However, it's also possible that the hype surrounding him died down.
Other Fighters Who Climbed the Ranks in Tekken 8 Patch 1.04
Given the significant changes in the current top characters players use, here are some other characters who climbed the ranks.
Leroy
One notable fighter is Leroy who saw an incline in the charts and is slowly regaining his fan base. The Wing Chun fighter received major buffs in the latest update, restoring all of the power he once had in Tekken 7. This led to his ranking increasing from 28th to 20th place. He still isn't within the top 10 characters, however, it wouldn't be surprising if he climbs the ranks again by next month.
Steve
Then there's Steve who wasn't in the top 10 last month but is now ranked 6th overall. Steve also received major buffs in the new update. Prior to the patch, the British boxer maintained most of his speed but lost his heavy-hitting punches. Now with the new buffs, opponents will once again feel the wrath of Steve's haymakers.
Asuka
Speaking of feeling the wrath of characters again, Asuka is also one of the buffed characters in the patch. Many players previously complained about how weak she felt compared to her Tekken 7 build. Now with the new buffs, this enabled her to climb the ranks from 19th to 15th place. Similar to Leroy, it's likely she could climb higher as time progresses, especially with her restored power.
The Top 5 Essentially Remains the Same
Looking at the previous top five fighters, Eddy, Jin, King, Reina, and Hwoarang were in command with Kazuya trailing in sixth place. Despite Eddy making a significant drop in ranks, the current top five is similar to the last one.
Jin, King, Reina, and Hwoarang remain at the top with Kazuya now claiming fourth place. The Taekwondo master maintains his fifth spot while Jin, King, and Rein all climb up by one rank. It's clear that the meta hasn't changed yet, however, there's a possibility of it changing soon with many characters receiving buffs.
